First (of hopefully many) News Feature of the Year!
On January 7th, 2011 Strolling in Style was featured in an article regarding new child product safety regulations. The article was featured on the front page the Sun Sentinel, South Florida’s local newspaper! Our Baby Jogger display is seen on the front page, along with one of our lovely customers Corrine Brown who was quoted in the article. The article discusses new regulations which adhere to all durable juvenile products- products designed to be used until a child outgrows and that are often passed down from person to person.
Joseph Sabag, owner of Strolling in Style (and dear husband of Rebecca who writes this blog and also owns our incredibly wonderful store) is quoted in the article. He discusses how the new regulations are good for people who do business with big box dealers. This way, even if the product was purchased from larger store with a lower level of customer service, if the product is registered the consumer will be notified of recalls on their products through mail and email alerts. Also, Joe mentions that even consumers shopping for second hand items are able to register their products through the new system which is important for people who shop at thrift or consignment stores. Joe is always glad to be a juvenile product expert and consultant for the Sun Sentinel!
As the article states, here at Strolling in Style we keep detailed records of who buys our strollers and car seats and we will always notify you of recalls when and if they occur.

South Florida Parenting!
Strolling in Style and the Stroller Doctor were the featured article in the April 2010 issue of South Florida Parenting Magazine! South Florida Parenting magazine focuses on issues affecting parents in the South Florida area. This month, they chose to highlight an issue affecting many parents this year, the recent stroller recalls.
The article highlighted Strolling in Style and the Stroller Doctor’s efforts to ensure that South Florida parents are strolling safely. Strolling in Style, as a community business who cares, began offering free installation of the Maclaren recall kit with a kick off event in November. When other companies began coming out with recalls, we decided to expand our reach by offering to fit any stroller with it’s recall kit for free.
We are still well stocked with the Maclaren recall kit. Some companies such as Graco or Britax must send the original consumer their recall kit and we at Strolling in Style and the Stroller Doctor can fit it on properly for free. Why can’t I do it myself, you ask? Often times, parents and caregivers don’t know whether or not the kit is correctly placed. We are stroller experts who work with these kits and products on a daily basis!
Our efforts have brought in over 1,000 Maclaren strollers off the streets of South Florida to be fitted with the recall kit. That means, over 1,000 safer kids on the streets of South Florida! And we are still going!
If you happen to be a South Florida parent, pick up South Florida Parenting magazine! If you happen to need any information about any recalled strollers visit www.cpsc.gov.

Customers frequently ask us whether it’s worth investing in a stroller travel bag. Our response: ‘If you are traveling on an airplane, you definitely want to secure your stroller in a travel bag.’ Check out this site for a few great video examples of why we are so insistant: Caught on Camera: Luggage Monkeys
Many of us have made a serious financial investment in quality strollers. They were purchased with the intention to use it with one, two or even three children. When traveling, parents are even more dependant upon the performance and functionality of their stroller. Stroller owners beware, because the airline baggage handler is one of your stroller’s worst enemies.
Surprise! Your baggage, including your stroller, is usually not handled well by the airline! Whether you check your stroller in at the counter or take it through the terminal and gate check it, airline employees generally are not concerned with the kind treatment of your belongings. What they care about is getting items on and off the plane, the conveyer belt, and the cargo bins as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, many travelers arrive at their destination to find their the bags have been tossed, shoved or piled on. Now take a moment to imagine your stroller going through this treatment each time you fly. It wont be long before you’ll be making a trip to The Stroller Doctor.
Every week The Stroller Doctor encounters strollers that have been trashed by the airlines. The Stroller Doctor’s proximity to Miami International Airport has helped it to become one of the largest stroller repair centers in the Country, with travelers from around the world stopping in for help. If the customer is fortunate, the stroller can be repaired to a condition safe for continued use with a child. Where the damage is too severe, especially on the frame, the stroller often needs to be replaced, forcing travellers to spend money and time to replace their stroller before moving onward. Needless to say, these customers are usually pretty aggravated. The worst part is that most airlines do not reimburse the customer for the damage caused or a replacement, no matter how negligent their handling of the stroller, unless it was secured in a manufacturer recommeneded travel bag such as this one, made by UPPAbaby for the Vista stroller.
Many manufacturers design and develop specific travel bags for their strollers. These bags, which usually range in price depending on the brand and model of the stroller, are molded to provide a perfect fit. Taking a travel bag with you and securing your stroller inside will limit the potential damage that can be caused by baggage handlers. Some travel bags are designed so that the back wheels of the stroller protrude to the outside, allowing you to tow the stroller inside the bag. Some bags have wheels of their own. Either way, we recommend you purchase and use a travel bag whenever you travel by air. At Strolling In Style and The Stroller Doctor, we refer to these stroller travel bags as “Stroller Insurance.” Depending on airline policy, if there have been breakage issues while traveling by air, the airline is much more likely to reimburse you for the cost of your product without a fight.
Some families go so far as to purchase secondary strollers for traveling. Their logic is that if the travel stroller breaks they are not too heartbroken and can replace the stroller at their destination for less money. However, there is the problem with this notion. Families tend to be more adventurous on their vacations and travels. Would you brave the theme park, beach, outdoor attraction or ski resort with a tiny travel stroller? If you have a comfortably performing stroller at home and are used to taking on any terrain or conditions, using a throw-away quality alternative is going to make you and your child uncomfortable and miserable. As most parents will attest, children who are used to their primary stroller will most likely be more fussy and less apt to sit in the travel stroller as it is uncomfortable and umfamiliar to them. The bottom line is that happy parents plus a comfortable baby equals a better vacation experience.
Watch the video above or see more videos of baggage handlers with your items and ask yourself if the cost of a travel bag is worth it. Questions about whether the stroller that interests you has a manufacturer recommended travel bag? Please email us at info@strollinginstyle.com

Earlier in February, Britax voluntarily recalled over 14,000 of their Blink Umbrella strollers. Recently, Britax and other brands including Cybex and Graco have decided to follow in the footsteps of their competitor Maclaren in issuing voluntary recalls for the hinges on their umbrella strollers due to possible fingertip laceration. The recall affected the following Maclaren strollers; Techno XLR, Techno XT, Twin Techno, Quest, Triumph, Twin Triumph, Ryder (objects of design) and Volo models as well as any models that are currently out of production.
The Stroller Doctor service and repair center is here to help in the event of a stroller recall. In November, The Stroller Doctor and Strolling in Style held an event in which we installed hinge covers on over 400 Maclaren strollers in the South Florida area. Because we are parents ourselves, we want to assist with other stroller recalls, even if the strollers are not one of our featured brands or were not purchased at Strolling in Style.
Following the Britax recall, Strolling in Style was featured on the front page of the South Florida Newspaper The Sun Sentinel in the money section on Friday, February 11th, 2010. The article, written by Diane Lade of the Sun Sentinel was in response to the recent Consumer product safety commission umbrella stroller recalls from the following manufacturers: Britax, Graco, Cybex and Maclaren.
The article is about the manufacturers response to the recall. It mentions how stroller companies offer repair kits, but do not offer customers to have the kits installed by professionals. The article speaks about how sadly, the stroller industry is one of the few that does not offer a retro fit service on their stroller in the event of a recall.
Here at Strolling in Style, we have retrofitted hundreds of Maclaren strollers with the repair kit. As the southeastern service and repair for Maclaren USA we offer the recall repair as a free service to any owner of a Maclaren stroller. We are also glad to help with any recall issues, including those from strollers we do not stock in our store. It is better to let a professional service handle a recall repair to ensure that your stroller is safe for use.
Our doors are always assistance in correcting their recalled stroller to make it safe for use with your child.
